SORORITY SEX KITTENS is actually a spin-off of the two "classic" SORORITY PINK films which featured Nina Hartley, Barbara Dare, Megan Leigh, Tianna and a host of other all-time favorite actresses of yesteryear. SORORITY PINK 3 was also released years later, and starred Nikki Dial, Cameo among others, but this lackluster video (except for Nikki Dial's scene) was only a sequel in name only. SORORITY SEX KITTENS (and its sequels) followed the same theme of --- what else? --- sorority girls and sex in a college environment. Once you are able engage your suspension of disbelief that most of these performers could actually seek higher education, it will be easier to relax and enjoy this hackneyed premise in porn, although the execution here is a bit shaky. Directed by Michael Craig and porn historian Jim Holliday, SORORITY SEX KITTENS, PART 1 boasts a plethora of the most and attractive popular actresses then-working in porn (circa early 1990s), but this feature does not show them at their performance-best.
The movie has six standard sex scenes, ending with a signature orgy of the sorority sisters engaged in the act of lesbian lust. Brunette Madison and Mike Horner open the film with a spirited romp within a dorm room. Although there is nothing special about their affair (which is typical of most of the couplings in this film), she has always proven to be an insatiable performer, and when Horner puts his mouth on her snatch, she bucks and gyrates like a rodeo horse to show that she's fully in charge. The only visual distraction is her over-sized implants which manage to defy the laws of gravity no matter what their sexual position. Some may find her molded tits attractive, but I prefer Madison with the natural rack we saw in classics like NEW WAVE HOOKERS 2. The curvaceous Victoria Paris and solid performer Melanie Moore share a lesbian scene, but other than Ms. Paris' very tan body, there is very little to enjoy in this rather perfunctory sexual outing. The film picks up when Lacy Rose take on Peter North and the future Philmore Butts in a three-some that includes a condomed-anal and cumshots landing only on her stomach. The highlight of this movie involves the always-sexy Selena Steele taking on three guys in a very mini-gangbang. This top-heavy, but petite brunette gives an on-camera blowjob like nobody else in the porn biz, but misdirected camera angles fail to show her always great work. Peter North delivers his patented money shot with some of it landing on Selena's smiling face, but due to the quality of the print (discussed later), it is very difficult to see even on a DVD-produced image. The sophisticated and fiery Ashlyn Gere removes off her glasses and lets down her hair to seduce a student, but it is Bionca who takes over and does the deed (we are frustratingly denied a threesome here). Finally, the film engages in an all-girl orgy involving all the principal players including the woefully underused Summer Knight, Angela Summers, and Teri Diver. Unfortunately, the camera seems to be overwhelmed by the action since it seems all the best couplings take place off-camera. It is almost unforgivable that with all the beauties gathered in one scene, the directors seem to point their camera randomly at the action, and the result is a tangled mess of limbs and genitalia.
This movie clearly impresses by the sheer number of top talent all participating in one major, two-part film. As far as extras go, all you get is the Photo Gallery and the VCA promotional data. The DVD image is better than the original videocassette release, and the audio is good.
The cover shot of the sexy Summer Knight, the sultry Ashlyn Gere and the beautiful Kelly O'Dell suggests a lot of potential and promise but the end product disappoints considerably. First of all, the film has a washed out, almost monochrome look (as it did on VHS) which makes some of the action hard to see (as in the Peter North cumshot) and conveys an overall murky, depressing atmosphere. I know shooting on film stock is difficult, but instead of being lighthearted as this subject matter should be, the unintentional film noir-style makes this epic story decidedly un-erotic. Secondly, much of the talent goes to waste. Although Summer Knight is featured prominently, she is seen only in non-sex dialogue scenes and in the chaotic orgy sequence (for those who have not been exposed to this raven-haired beauty, I heartily recommend the PUSSYMAN series to see her at her slinkiest best). Kelly O'Dell does not even have sex until the sequel --- and as my review of that movie suggests --- it is hardly worth waiting for. The red-headed wet dream known as Teri Diver is almost completely absent in this movie. A single boy-girl scene with her alone could have raised the heat on this movie ten times over.
SORORITY SEX KITTENS is best purchased for novelty, or by hardcore fans of the all the actresses who grace this film. It is best scene in conjunction with the slightly better PART 2, so the viewer does not feel gypped by the mediocre sex.
