A Vivid production released through their Wave line of DVDs, CAUGHT IN THE ACT is a serviceable, if unspectacular, vehicle for one of the best Vivid Girls to have ever appeared in blue movies, Celeste. Although most of her very best movies were made by other studios (ELEMENTS OF DESIRE and THE DINNER PARTY from Ultimate, and PUSSYMAN 3 from Snatch, to name a few), Celeste appeared in some very memorable releases under directors Paul Thomas and Toni English, including TROUBLEMAKER co-starring Asia Carrera, POISON with long-time girlfriend Dyanna Lauren, EXPOSURE where she does an incredible scene with Rocco Siffredi, and of course the Award-winning BORDERLINE, which has been butchered on DVD.
CAUGHT IN THE ACT does not even come close to the erotic standards of the aforementioned movies. However, for any fan of Celeste, this DVD is indeed a must have, especially when considering how gorgeous she looks throughout the feature. Although admittedly much of her stunningly great looks are due to the wonders of plastic surgery, Celeste was probably one of the most beautiful brown-haired beauties ever to grace porn. At 5'7" (according to the stats on the DVD's extras), with a Cindy Crawford-ish face and curves in all the right places, it's almost unbelievable that a woman such as her would open herself up to our voyeuristic viewing pleasure. She appears in two scenes in this video, beginning with an above-average threesome with a surprisingly subdued Nancy Vee (an attractive brunette who was absolutely wild in a scene with Jon Dough which has been compiled [and edited, unfortunately] for SODOMANIA: SMOKING SEXATIONS) and usual sex partner Woody Long. Celeste looks sexy as hell whenever she is sucking on cock or clit, and here she is led through a pseudo-fetish themed encounter led by Ms.Vee. Even though this is clearly the best scene in the whole film, I was a bit disappointed that her girl-girl action with Nancy didn't go on as long as I wanted. Her end of movie scene with Stephen St. Croix is pretty good, but nothing special; they have had other scenes together where they demonstrated a lot more enthusiasm and passion. Also, condoms are very evident in the in-and-out shots which lessen the heat somewhat.
Nina Hartley has her shot at Mr. St. Croix, for a very hot straight scene which is marred by poor cinematography. The oral cumshot becomes invisible thanks to overexposure, where Nina's blonde hair and fair skin become flared with a radioactive glow. Since orals and facials were so rare in Vivid Videos (especially today where they are for all intents and purposes extinct), the camera man or the lighting guy clearly blew the opportunity to capture the moment, which does a disservice to the legendary and always sexy Ms. Hartley.
Other sex scenes in this eighty-minute feature include an opening tease by Nicole Lace, who looks simply delectable dressed up in a blue bra and panties while trying to seduce the pre-infamous Marc Wallice for a hearty fuck-fest. Also, the overly tattooed Anna Malle opens up her all three openings for Joey Silvera in the least interesting of scenes. Although all the women look great in this movie, it is Celeste who mesmerizes the viewer whenever she is on camera, even when she is simply walking on the beach, or just talking on the telephone, or bouncing up and down Woody's woody.
The video on this DVD is limited by the clumsy cinematography of the original source, which is overall grainy but still relatively clear. There are apparent scratches and defects in the print which of course were not digitally "restored" during the transfer to DVD. Sound is adequate. Extras are the same features found in all Wave DVDs including a previews section, a bunch of random clips, a biography section on a variety of Vivid Girls, and some other promotional items.
CAUGHT IN THE ACT will never become my favorite porn DVD from my collection, but I'm glad to have it to replace my old VHS copy. For all Celeste fans, or soon-to-be Celeste fans, there is no getting around the fact that this video is a must-buy.
