Nice To Meet You 3.5 out of 5.00 - Film: 3 Extras: 2 Video: 5 Audio: 4 - 4/17/2008
Once upon a time I liked the films of Michael Ninn. They were quality productions, as they still are, but he managed to capture his female talent on film unlike any other director I had seen. Tastes change, surely, but I think it is more a change that took place with Ninn sometime around when he founded his own studio. The emphasis went from being on the female talent to being on the fact that Ninn was the director, and they seem to overproduced now that the action almost gets lost in atmospherics and slick editing techniques.

I appreciate that, as well, don't get me wrong. With a production background, I like to see a well made film, and Meet Brea certainly is, but while of good quality, it was not a particularly steamy film.

Brea Bennett seems attractive enough, though I think in this case casting her almost completely with other blondes was a mistake. For contrast's sake, she should be working in a film like this only with costars who are strikingly different. If the goal is to grow her identity, that would be the route to take.

The first scene takes its sweet time getting rolling, with a guy and Brea on a nice enough set. Too many odd edits hurt the flow a bit to start, but what really distracted me was the red background. It was almost too bold here, and it was as if some of the scene itself got washed out. The music, while annoying, is well balanced with the sounds of the actors, and aside from some annoying shadow effects from the lighting placement, the scene itself was pleasant enough to watch. The oral sequences in particular were well done, perhaps a testament to Ninn's now distant work on the Diva series. Those were good times indeed.

The blowjob sequence in particular goes for quite some time, and when penetration occurs, we really get a nice look at her body. Very good stuff, and a good omen for a film when I want to switch places with the male star right off the bat. The positions are a bit bland, though they are for the most part reasonably well captured. A couple have the camera positioned so we're really more looking in the face of the female talent rather than seeing things on the business end, and that would work if she were more expressive, but her face is somewhat passive throughout, really not making that choice click.

The popshot is almost too long, as the camera lingers for quite some time.

The second scene's introduction is downright annoying. Brea shouldn't be allowed to talk if she's going to talk like that. It's an utterly stereotypical dialect, and she's commenting on how another girl is going to get fucked in the ass. "So fucking sexy." Those words just don't come together like that. Bad transition.

She is cute, though, Kelley Wells, the one who is indeed getting fucked in the ass. It's a good scene, probably the hardest overall on the disc, though the lighting is again a problem with shadows everywhere. There's a near ATM for more hardcore fans, though there are notable edits. Good scene.

The third scene is previewed quite a bit in the opening credits with Brea and Celeste Star in a lesbian scene that is as reminiscent of the Diva years as anything Ninn himself has directed lately. I get that the over saturation of lighting was on purpose for the scene, though it is another example of production taking the front seat ahead of bodies and action. There isn't a great deal of chemistry between these two, and it's much more fingers than tongues, leading me to think that there's quite a bit more acting than normal going on here. It is a tender scene, though, and it's not as if it's cold, so it's worth a watch.

Oh hell... they let Brea talk in that same bland incongruous way to start the fourth scene, as she introduces Samantha Sin and the DP she's going to take. This scene was too dark for my taste, literally, with the lighting. Meh. And the last scene is a more bland repeat of the first scene, so the disc ends with a bit of a whimper.

Fans of extra features, look elsewhere. You get very crude chapter stops, none within the individual scenes, no bonus scenes, popshot access, or even trailers. There's a vaguely annoying behind the scenes, and there's the usual photo gallery, the purpose of which I am still yet to understand.

It's not bad, but it's certainly not great either, and from such a once-prominent director, I'm a bit surprised where this went. The love for Ninn seems to be with his production, rather than with his product.
