Using voice-over narration to drive a storyline is something that sometimes works in mainstream movies, but I have yet to see it work in an adult film. Usually it's a way for lazy writers to provide exposition for their script, or - as is often the case in porn flicks - a way to provide a link between what would be otherwise random sex scenes.
Since Jessica Drake is credited as the writer of
Dating 101, I'll cut her a little slack (after all, writing is not the primary reason she's in the business), but this is a rather below-average story with some nicely-done sex scenes...with the result being a watchable, but ultimately forgettable Wicked release.
The movie opens with Jessica in bed with Barrett Blade, her character's current boyfriend. Jessica looks quite sexy here in an outfit that consists of a black bra and panties, and some knee-high black boots. The main positions covered here are cowgirl, spoon and doggy, and while Jessica doesn't take anal, she does often reach back and stick a finger in her ass (or allows Barrett to do the same). The pop-shot here is intended to go into Jessica's mouth, but most of it winds up oozing down off her tongue onto her chin.
After Jessica and Barrett have sex, Jessica wants to spend some more time with him, but (like most males after a hot sex session), Barrett just wants to roll over and take a nap. It's at this point that Jessica decides their relationship is what she wants, and she becomes determined to find "The Whole Package" in a mate. She also decides to begin a career as a matchmaker for others in their quest for true love.
The first assignment Jessica takes on is with former Vivid star Cassidey, who is on a dinner date with Randy Spears. As Cassidey eats dinner with Randy, Jessica sits outside the restaurant in her car, feeding Cassidey questions to ask via an earpiece in Cassidey's ear. Cassidey and Randy eventually head back to one of their places for a sex session, and Jessica masturbates in her car while listening to the action. The Cassidey/Spears pairing is one of the better in the movie, with the only "downside" being the pop-shot, which has Randy shooting onto Cassidey's feet (although she does lick off some of the cum). I suppose foot-fetishists will love this, but these kind of cumshots have never done much for me.
Marcus London plays a nerd who sends Jessica a videotape of his sexual success to "thank" Jessica for all her help. We get to see Marcus pairing up with cute Lexi Belle in a scene that has him eating her out on a countertop, giving her missionary on a stool, and finishing off with standing doggy and a climax onto her behind.
Next up is the obligatory lesbian sequence - this one between blonde Lexxi Tyler and brunette Jenaveve Jolie. After an exchange of oral and fingering, Jenaveve uses a red jelly dildo on Lexxi, followed by Lexxi using a flesh-colored dildo on Jenaveve. Jenaveve then dons a strap-on to fuck Lexxi doggy style and cowgirl. The final position has Lexxi wearing a strap-on and spooning Jenaveve.
In the next to last scene, we have Brooke Banner eyeing Tyler Knight in a bar. Tyler's with another girl, but he says something to tick her off and she throws her drink in his face and storms out. Brooke beckons Tyler over to her and the two go out in the back alley for a nice interracial scene that ends with Tyler shooting into her mouth and onto her chin.
Throughout the movie, Jessica has been working with Chris Cannon to try and improve his dating skills, but find herself falling for him. When Chris accidently hits Jessica in the head with a baseball bat (no, I'm not kidding!) it leads to a little making out back at Chris' place. Jessica and Chris' scene begins with oral and proceeds into missionary and cowgirl penetration - ending with him jerking into her mouth. Not a bad conclusion, but not quite as good as Jessica's opening scene with Barrett.
Extras on the DVD include a 4-minute blowjob-only scene from
Bad Girls that has Jessica in an elevator with Herschel Savage, Chris Cannon and Eric Masterson. There's also a 21-minute behind the scenes featurette, as well as a 5-minute look at the box cover shoot. In addition to the 8 trailers in the bonus section, the DVD also includes the trailer for this title, as well as pre-loaded trailers for
Carmen Goes South and
The Artist. Slide shows, bios and promo materials round out the bonus features.
I love watching Jessica Drake in action, and she's been a part of some of my all-time favorite adult movies. However,
Dating 101 is one of her more average releases, and should probably be considered rental-only material.
