Nina Hartley is, without a doubt, a true legend of adult. In the many interviews and documentaries where she speaks on behalf of the industry and herself, she comes off as intelligent, well-spoken, and thoughtful, which only adds to her sexual appeal. She's a superb and uninhibited performer, but she's also careful not to degrade herself in overly exploitative or misogynistic videos. Over the years, she has moved away from features and focused on "how to" videos which showcase her many years of talent and experience. (For those unfamiliar with her legacy, I strongly recommend VCA's DEEP INSIDE NINA HARTLEY discs as a strong introduction.) Other than Ginger Lynn, I can't think of another blonde bombshell in adult who has had as much staying power and fan-following over the last twenty five years.
As of the date of this review, Nina is approaching nearly half a century in age. I'm not sure at what age a woman can be considered a "MILF" (Mother I'd Like To Fuck, for those who aren't hip to today's terms), but it seems to me that perhaps she is closer to "G-MILF" ("G" for grandmother) than anything else. Then again, career women are having kids much later in life these days, so perhaps she still fits the bill. Of course, a pretty woman is a pretty woman, and it goes without saying that just because someone is significantly older than your everyday, barely legal starlet, doesn't mean that they can't look great. Either way, Miss Hartley is still quite attractive for a 50 year old (I doubt I would look one-third as good by the time I hit my mid-forties), and while not as eye-pleasing as Jenna Haze, she can still arouse thanks to her always amazing oral skills and overall carnal attitude.
As it just so happens, she is the most attractive performer in NINA HARLEY: MILF TRAINER, which features three other women, all of whom do the deed competently, but none truly excite. Suffice to say, I didn't find even eye-candy in this video to sustain that much interest during the one-hour, forty-four minute running time, and I certainly can't imagine re-watching it again any future date. I'm not knocking the cast based on their age, but this particular genre of porn doesn't do anything for me.
Based on her previous work, I assumed that Miss Hartley would act as hostess to the proceedings, involved in giving instructions to couples comprised of older women with younger men. Instead, she appears only in bookending scenes of what is otherwise a sub-standard gonzo flick. The cover blurb exclaims, "Watch her whip these boys into MILF shape!" but that is only true as to her partners, beginning with a blowjob-only pairing with Scott Lyons, and concluding with a straight (and overly long) affair with Jay Lasseiter. The first scene shows Nina crouched down in a sparse room (save for a piano and a chair), eagerly giving Mr. Lyons a hummer. Already, the viewer becomes distracted by a large blister or knot on the left side of his abdomen. Until the camera switches angles or goes in a for a close-up of Nina's mouth, the skin deformity remains in plain view and serves as an auspicious start to a disappointing flick. Nina talks (a lot) during her scene, but the poor miking makes her words echo into unintelligibility. Luckily, we can hear her slurping away quite nicely, but it's obvious that this is a budget-minded production. Ten minutes later, he cums on her chest, and she looks into the camera and announces, "I just love my job. What can I say?" Well, we love your job, too...but you've done better work earlier and elsewhere.
Miss Hartley's finishing scene with Jay Lassiter takes place in a romantic setting, with a fire in the background and on a black couch which seems to jump from room to room throughout this flick. It begins slow with kissing, caressing and fingering, but soon gets more aggressive as Nina's head is occasionally held down while she deep throats cock. Gasping for air, she seems to take it in stride with a glib comment after each resuscitation, but does not appear 100% comfortable with the act. The two continue to fuck in several positions, and Miss Hartley emotes a wee bit too much during the act, as if she's having multiple orgasms during what is otherwise a straight screwing. The viewer is "treated" to some close-ups of her ass getting spanked while engaged in cowgirl fucking, but the whole scene goes on monotonously until the final cumshot to her butt. For a movie entitled MILF TRAINER, one might reasonably expect a bit more extreme action like anal or swallowing, but one would be wrong.
Skinny blonde Payton Leigh appears in the second scene with Jack Fountain. They do it on the aforementioned black couch, and Ms. Leigh performs enthusiastically. She takes time away from her non-stop oral practices to announce, "I love to suck balls!" and she seems to enjoy getting screwed doggy-style and reverse cowgirl. She takes in Jack's ball juice without hesitation, but doesn't swallow graphically. Overall, it's an okay scene, and like any other, its appeal will depend greatly on your attraction to the actress.
Slightly easier on the eyes is Kayla Quinn, who gets screwed on the black couch in another room where a Christmas tree is clearly visible in the background. (It doesn't make her scene any less holy or spiritual.) Paired with Dane Cross (the last name and the presence of the Christmas tree must be coincidental), Ms. Quinn is a competent performer, and certainly more relaxed than any other girl here, but she also appears to be the most emotionally distant. After she gets injected internally by Mr. Cross's semen, the camera pans up to her face, which is as expressionless as the best poker player in Vegas, and her eyes seem positively dead to the world. Maybe she was just tired, or wanted to be somewhere else during the Holidays.
Redhead Debbi Dial is up next, and while not necessarily a hottie, she is definitely the most interesting performer. She introduces herself by talking about her oversized breasts, explaining that such physical characteristics mean that "you don't have to be smart or anything!" It's a rather weak attempt at humor, but Miss Dial (who probably assumed her last name from the legendary Nikki Dial, who also had a naturally healthy chest) proves her free-spiritedness as she attacks Jay Taylor with deep throating blowjobs, and action-packed fucking, and using her tits to squeeze his member deep in between. The large tattoos on her back and arm are not necessarily flattering, but her sheer aggression does much to liven things up. That their scene takes place in a garage underscores the lowly visuals, but Debbi impresses in the end with a cumshot to the mouth which is drooled onto her tit, and then sucked backed up for a final swallow.
As with all recent Hustler Blu-rays, the picture in NINA HARTLEY: MILF HUNTER is excellent, with vivid detail and color. However, the cheapness of the production also comes off nakedly exposed under the high definition picture, which does not flatter the end product. Likewise, the 2.0 audio neither improves nor degrades the sub-par soundtrack. The most notable extra on this disc aside from all the studio website promos, trailers and internet and phone sex ads is the Behind The Scenes featurette which runs 25 minutes long and is composed mainly of an interview with the legend herself. Unfortunately, this segment is again poorly miked, and while the booming voice of the interviewer comes in loudly and clearly, Miss Hartley's responses are heard from a foggy distance. The interview itself is respectful and humorous, and our favorite blonde provides insight into her career and her role in the adult industry, but you have to strain to hear everything.
Nina shows that she still has "it" when it comes to sex and sexuality, but she deserves to star in a better showcase of her talents than MILF TRAINER.
