I didn't know what I was getting myself into with
Honey Bunny. It was my first Vivid title, and my first Alt porn title as well, and I figured that because I like tattoos and edgy material that I would like this as well.
Sadly, I was wrong.
I imagine it was the overall "trippy-ness" of the movie that threw me off, but I didn't enjoy very much of this film, which is disappointing because I can tell it wasn't just a porno but a work of art someone put a lot of time and effort into.
The sex scenes were alright, but the performers didn't seem to have the kind of chemistry that I like to see. Max Mikita and Jordan Ash were entertaining, but it felt like they were holding back, as if they were as confused as I was at that point as to what the movie was about. However, I was about to get much more confused with the following scenes. It wasn't that they were bad or badly filmed, but that they involved elements that I was either uncomfortable with, such as Adrianna Nicole wearing a leather bondage bunny mask for part of her scene with Tyler Knight, or the scenes contained video/camera effects that annoyed me because they distracted from the action between the performers, such as the numerous video/camera effects that ran through the screen during Page Morgan and Alex Gonz's scene. If it wasn't crazy kaleidoscope lens effects, then it was bunny animations jumping around on the screen.
The scenes in between the sex scenes didn't help either. They featured the actors either repeating certain phrases ("To my sisters, I salute you!" or "Fuck like a bunny!") or talking about how certain people were "bunny people". Basically, I found myself saying "What?!" a lot while watching this movie.
I held out hope for the extras, thinking maybe the behind-the-scenes feature would help explain some of what I had just watched, but that hope was in vain. The behind-the-scenes didn't reveal much of what the meaning of the movie was, nor did it reveal much of anything. There weren't any real interviews with the cast, or even with the director, Vena Virago. The rest of the extras included the usual photo gallery and trailers, but one extra that stood out were the Monkey Town Videos. The Monkey Town Videos were a collection of the video/camera effects that were seen throughout the movie, and in this extra feature, they were isolated from the scenes they were attached to, so you could see them again.
Once again, I can tell that this movie wasn't just some porno, but a piece of art. However, this was not a piece of art that I was able to appreciate, and I wish I had been able to.
