Sun Goddess: Malibu is basically a solo masturbation flick with one epic-sized lesbian scene thrown in for good measure. Since I am not a fan of girls playing with themselves, I can't say that this DVD appealed to me immediately, but the cast is just too good to ignore. Directed by Joshua, each girl is spotlighted outdoors in picturesque background settings in Malibu, but surprisingly, not on the beach. The video opens up with Teagan, looking gorgeous as usual (despite her recent tattoos, which I found to be unfortunate), as she is photographed over neighboring hills in what is probably a vast and opulent estate (we're talking Great Gatsby here). In fact, all four babes are captured on video romping around the same general area, with their final scene taking place by a massive swimming pool Teagan's segment eats up about fifteen minutes of the fifty minute masturbation fest, while Gianna Lynn, Sasha Grey and finally Bree Olson contribute around ten minutes each. Aside from the obvious eye-candy, each performer wields a dildo for her (and our) pleasure, smiling and posing for the camera as if it were all second nature.
If
Sun Goddess: Malibu were only about masturbation scenes, then I would have dismissed it immediately. Fortunately, the cast comes together for a finale which is worth the admission price, especially if you're a fan of any of the girls. (As for me, Sasha Grey and Teagan make this a no-brainer viewing choice.) I'm not quite so sure that this all-girl outing is indeed, "the hottest Sapphic scene caught on film" (as the magazine-quoted, boxcover blurb boasts). For one thing, this particular scene, as well as the entire flick in general, was captured on high definition video, and not film. Secondly, while the girls' fantastic foursome is quite good, it doesn't really match up to some truly spectacular scenes I've witnessed in titles like THE OFFICE GIRLS (Nella and Stella Stevens sizzle in an office setting), THE DINNER PARTY (which boasts a threesome featuring Celeste, Debi Diamond and Misty Rain), HIDDEN OBSESSIONS (Julia Ann and Janine playing around with an icicle dildo), or even WHERE THE BOYS AREN'T #18 (Briana Banks, Lanny Barby, Tawny Roberts, Tera Patrick and at least seven others get together poolside).
Nevertheless, the wet-dream combination of Miss Grey, Teagan, Bree Olson and Miss Lynnis quite a treat, as they go at each other for nearly forty-five minutes on patio chairs with fountains and a pool lit up in the background. That their scene was apparently shot at night, but with images are bright and crisp and clear, really adds to the erotic experience. Too often, nighttime shots end up grainy and virtually unwatchable as shadows obscure body parts, and lights bounce off skin like solar flares. Here, however, the picture looks terrific, with clear close-ups of Sasha Grey sucking on Teagan's tongue, and Gianna Lynn lapping at Bree's nether-regions. Vibrators, strap-ons and dildos are also used up the butt as well as in the quim, but never as a replacement for the girls' fingers and lips.
I wish the sound was as well-composed as the video. There were many moments where the music was a bit too overwhelming, and portions of the video certainly seemed overdubbed, but it was difficult to tell. Many gonzo titles have shown that the all-natural vocals of girls having an orgamiscally good time probably make up the best soundtrack money can buy, but I can also understand that a video like this is probably best presented in the style of music videos. As far as extras go, the twenty-five minute Behind The Scenes segment is entertaining, and shows the technical quality which went into capturing the movie. Sasha Grey is also interviewed extensively and she comes off as intelligent as she is charming.
Altogether,
Sun Goddess: Malibu is a nice, quickie lesbian title which gives you a fifty-minute opening act, followed by a climactic all-girl orgy. I didn't love it, but I can't deny it's effect.
