For the last couple of years I've become infatuated with the lesbian videos produced by Viv Thomas and his studio, where hot babes, deep, prolonged kissing, and absolutely believable girl-girl scenes have been the director's specialty. Quite frankly, I thought that no other American-produced title would even approach the kind of sensuality and seduction found in OFFICE GIRLS, THE ART OF KISSING, and CONFESSIONS OF A MAKEUP ARTIST just to name a few superior flicks from this sub-genre of adult.
Well, after experiencing KITTENS AND COUGARS, it's safe to say that perhaps I've unpatriotically misjudged our domestic pornographers. This is a hot and heavy video, confidently directed by Mike Quasar who is probably one of the most reliable and consistent gonzo artists around. Taking advantage of the MILF (Mother I'd Like To Fuck) theme, he has assembled some of the very best performers from yesteryear and paired them up with young newbies who are quickly becoming as sexually skilled as their older and bolder partners.
In particular, I was thrilled to see the legendary Debi Diamond acting as wildly and as energetically as ever. This tall, blonde sex maniac was among the best performers ever back in the eighties and nineties (just check out THE REHEARSAL, and THE GANGBANG GIRL #3-4 for absolute proof), and the way she seduces Alice Bell proves that retirement hasn't affected her abilities one bit. Watching her have sex with Miss Bell is like watching professional wrestling.
Likewise, Roxanne Hall, Francesca Le (my favorite adult star ever), Julia Ann and Michelle Lay all show off their years of experience with Ashli Orion, Charlie Laine, Lexi Belle and Tori Black, respectively. Toys are kept far and away from the action, allowing the girls to use their fingers, tongues and lips to do the pleasing. Highlights include Francesca's superb kissing with Miss Laine who is pinned against a wall, and Tori eating out Miss Lay in a bathtub as water cascades onto her pussy. I've been a fan of Miss Le since "porno" met "videotape" and Tori Black has already joined the ranks of Jenna Haze and Taylor Rain in my book of truly superior performers. I would have loved to see both brunettes do each other, but I guess that moment will be saved for another day...
The videography is excellent (I'm already waiting for it to come out on Blu-ray!), and the direction is both imaginative, yet clear and disciplined. Rarely did I find myself wishing to see the action at another angle, or feeling the urge to speed search through any given scene. Even straightforward shots like Tori Black sitting by a waterfall and making out with Ms. Lay as their legs remain causally intertwined go a long way to showing us simple and natural positions which are almost completely ignored in gonzo. It's the little details which make KITTENS AND COUGARS tower above your typical lesbian video.
Even the Behind The Scenes featurette (which runs a little less than thirteen minutes) is fun and erotic. The girls are interviewed with their onscreen partners (with the exception of Roxanne Hall and Ashli Orion, who seems to have missed their opportunity) and their playfulness is infectious. Tori Black and Michelle Lay in particular seem to have an obvious affection for one another, and the two fool around and continue kissing even while being interviewed. It's enough to make me want to reach my handy supply of lotion and tissues yet again. So if it isn't obvious already, I recommend this title wholeheartedly and whole-hardeningly for any living, breathing adult fan who has a special interest in seeing classic stars taking on the latest up and cummers.
