So I'm trying to be an all-around more reasonable reviewer. Regular readers will know that I've given Vivid a pretty hard time over the year. I figure a name that is credited as being a leader really should step up and act like one, and most of the time I feel like they fail at this. Badly. But I'm going to treat
Centerfolds Exposed as though I've never heard of the company and see what I can make of it.
The opening scene, featuring Tori Black, is actually very well assembled, though I don't think her trying to dance really went all that well. There's too much lingering on the shot of her with a couple of fingers in her mouth as well. I guess it was supposed to line up with the bridge in the music, but it just seemed weird. And really, her dancing seems painfully awkward. Several camera shots linger too long, while others that seem to capture a more comfortable Tori seem to just flick by. An example: her giving oral sex to a hair brush is lingered on, while a nice shot of her face where she seems to genuinely smile is almost a strobe shot. I do like the occasional freeze and pan, making it feel as though this is more of a magazine shoot than it is. A nice idea. Obsessing with her brushing the very little bit of pubic hair she has? Just weird. Bear in mind that I don't find a woman using a toy, generally, to be particularly erotic. So using a hair brush is really nothing but a turn off for me, and that's what we jump into when the music cuts out and the obvious "action" sequence kicks in. Full points for the shot of just her upper half and the facial expressions she's making, as this made for an excellent POV moment. But chopping back down, on a rough cut, to more brush work just leaves me going from hot to cold. And bam! There's the stunt cock for this scene, hanging out of some jeans and going right for Tori's mouth. I could use a medium shot here to establish the scene just a little bit more. They pan to something akin to this eventually, but just to show her playing with the brush some more. Finally we're out far enough to see that it's the venerable Steve Holmes, who, if most scenes are anything to go by, is the luckiest guy in the world for the talent he gets to work with. Steve fingers her off very nicely, and I don't think that was a fake orgasm. If it was, she's the best actress I can think of, as that shaking can't be easy to exaggerate. They go through a rather regular sequence of positions, and there were times when the camera was just a bit too shaky for me, where a stationary cam would have done the job instead. Not to be missed is the downright luscious ball licking and cock sucking Tori gets going very late in the scene, and the missionary that leads to a splendid mouth shot in the end is quite nice as well. She's a slobberer, which is okay, I guess, but it just looks so forced. I'd rather it just be a facial instead. A good scene.
I'm always up for a good Alexis Texas scene as well, even if her wonderful backside does seem to be getting just a bit smaller than it used to be. Still nice to look at. She puts in an excellent scene with Mick Blue, and the full body cumshot in the end is rather delicious.
It's really an enjoyable film, where the production values stay out of the way, the self-congratulation is absent, and the bits of production included to keep the theme going are complimentary rather than a distraction. The cast is a solid one, without so much of the need to obsess over the fact that certain stars are contracted to Vivid and are therefore (marketing buzzword failure alert) Vivid Girls. You might want to mark this day on the calendar when I say that Skow has done excellent work and should be congratulated on a fine film. You'll want to pick up
