Though not an instant classic, SPIN THE BOTTLE is a simple yet effective feature video from Wicked which benefits greatly from the limitless talents of Jenna Haze and Alektra Blue. It's the kind of movie I would have enjoyed watching back in the early nineties when studios were producing budget minded, plot-driven quickies with straightforward, but occasionally very steamy sex. Mind you, the vast majority of those videos were easily forgettable, and deservedly dismissed as hack work, but I can't help feeling nostalgic about those simpler, gonzo-less times.
The storyline involves a bunch of guys and girls getting together and playing classic slumber party games which hook up couples randomly (and erotically, I might add). All of the action takes place in a single setting (a house which doesn't look like it belongs to Warren Buffet), and the hardcore happens at such quick pace, that one is never tempted to fast-forward through the non-action scenes. We get a few pieces of dialogue which reveal personal details and attempts at characterization (usually referring to one or two guys as being jerks or insensitive), but all this is largely inconsequential.
Highlights include a steamy opener with Jenny Hendryx, who delivers an awesome blowjob on Kris Slater in a closet. It's an adult version of "seven minutes in heaven" and indeed their scene is completed after a little over six minutes. Then Jenna Haze takes her spin at the bottle, which happens to land on lovely Kirsten Price, prompting the two to immediately put on a lesbian show for the crowd. Jenna is such an incredible man-pleaser that it's almost a pity she's "wasted" on a girl-girl affair. Fortunately, we get to see her in hetero action for the climactic orgy, which includes all four girls ends with a cum-swap between Alektra Blue and Miss Haze, and between Miss Blue and Miss Hendryx. None of the six scenes (including a tryst between Jenny and Mike Builders, and two very impressive threesomes with Alektra Blue) break any new ground, and yes, comdoms are present throughout. But I enjoyed myself from beginning to end (with appropriate breaks for proper clean-up) and would gladly recommend this title.
As always, I wish that Wicked would light their features a bit brighter, but the picture quality is still top-notch, and as is the audio. Surprisingly, no Behind The Scenes segment is offered as a bonus materials, but we are provided a trailer as well as an excellent all-girl orgy excerpt from HOUSE OF WICKED. I have to imagine that the lack of a documentary was a natural result from such a basic porn feature: there simply isn't that much to say about the making of SPIN THE BOTTLE. Nevertheless, I offer kudos to Brad Armstrong for not burdening his movie with any sub-plots involving vampires, or any characters with psychological complications. I've complained before that too many otherwise ambitious Wicked titles end up being monotonous and dreary due to these dramatic pretensions, so SPIN THE BOTTLE is a true breath of fresh air.
