There is something about the Tom Green school of comedy that I have never found funny. This seems to be the direction Spock Buckton has gone with
How to be a Ladies Man, an attempt to me funny by being crass and vaguely outrageous, though none of it really comes off as anything other than immature. The shame of it is, if you can ignore the more childish aspects of the premise, the action itself really is quite good. Another case where drinking a whole hell of a lot and being somewhat degrading is somehow considered entertainment.
Two scenes really stand out to me: those starring Bobbi Starr and Kimberly Kane. It's probably because I'm fans of them so much. Bobbi's scene opens with her oboe, wearing a shirt, panties, and some old-school tube socks. So the guy is nice to her and interested in her as a person, so that means he'll never get any according to Spock. That's because he just pulls it out and disgusts her. Oh, and the recording of an oboe they use is more like a flute. Spock tells us we have to act like assholes in order to get the lady. Nice. All of the sudden the guy turns into a
Jersey Shore guy who seems to be mentally retarded, patriarchal, and, to top it all off, kind of homophobic. So of course, at the end of it all, she's interested in him. I hate this movie so much. Thankfully the talking stops and they get some rather good action going. It's a couch scene, and one with rather uneven lighting, so it isn't the best. The worst part is the flowers on the table in front of the couch. They seem to be perpetually in the foreground of every shot. Seems like not very good planning to me. An excellent blowjob sequence here, but you would expect that from Bobbi, so I'm not giving you any surprises there. Good positions throughout, and Bobbi really does seem to enjoy herself in every scene she's in. Some great anal in here, though that isn't the focus of the scene. Good mouth shot in the end. A shame they get back into the acting bit in the end.
Spock then points out that if we're watching his DVD, we must be fucking retards. That's so funny! Kimberly goes into her scene out at a fine restaurant - or the porn fake-set equivalent of a fine restaurant. The guy overdoes it on the doucheiness to start, and I don't understand why he has to say "fuck" every other word. Seriously, my brain is about to start bleeding over all of this. I did like how the table magically disappeared so they could just use the booth for the action. Most restaurants I go to tend to frown on that more than a little bit. It's good action, but the booth seems to require everyone's head to be at what looks like an uncomfortable angle during this scene. Kimberly keeps looking over at the director as well, so surely not one of her stronger performances. Good anal here as well, but almost any anal is good anal, so I'm not sure what point I'm making with that. Missionary is probably the pick of the positions for that here. Another good mouth shot in the end. It's a shame I hate the premise so much here, as the action really is nicely acted and captured.
A bit more than the average bit of extras here, with behind the scenes, cumshots, a photo gallery, and bloopers, something I'd like to see in more films. It just makes it all seem more genuine. There is also a bad version of a commercial for Buckton's "program" for getting some. Supposed to be comedy, but it's sorely lacking here.
How to be a Ladies Man was painful for me, but that's because of the type of humour they chose to employ. I'm probably not the target demographic here. There are some very fine ladies here with some very well captured action. If that's your thing, and it is for just about all of us I would guess, then you'll probably be happy with the film overall. The wild card is the "comedy" and that's the beauty of being able to skip chapters.
