As I write this, we're in the middle of an HIV virtual shutdown of the industry. I wanted to take a second and applaud Wicked for both leading the way (with Vivid) on calling for a moratorium on production and for requiring performers to use condoms. I know the latter of those two is a complicated issue, and I'd rather have porn without condoms, but I also don't want any of these stars I enjoy to put their lives on the line for my entertainment. Just sayin'.
It is a good thing, though, that Wicked has such a backlog of releases that they can afford to rest on their previous work just a bit. Hooked is one of those films, having recently come out. Regular readers will know of my respect for Wicked's features, though they do fall into two categories: the comedies and the dramas. Give me the former over the latter any day. But it seems that Jessica Drake only gets cast in the latter, and come to think of it, I can't remember seeing her smile much or be goofy in her roles. So perhaps Hooked suits her just fine.
Though there still seems to be an odd fixation on prostitution in this industry. Again, just sayin'.
Full points for the usual array of trailers, always making me want to get my hands on a few more of their titles. Intelligent marketing. Now if only they'd include more material to put on a computer on these discs, I think they could make it perfect. Granted, for awhile Wicked used to give you a wallpaper image of their contract stars, but that was kind of meh to me. Take that photo gallery that's on every disc (from every company) and instead make those jpegs watermarked with the company's logo. Voila, marketing and good will. Oh, and Trash Talk looks like it might be a fun film.
Brad Armstrong directing here, and full points for the pseudo-Microsoft Word opening. Neat little effect, that. I have to admit to being more than a little tired of Jessica Drake's morose internal monologues in every film. Starts off with a bit of hostility in the office. Then more internal monologue.
Oh, hey! Sex! Jessica gets a scene going with, well, some guy (I admit to hitting fast forward to get to the sex). Darker scene, which means the lighting that's present is a bit more on the artificial side, but it still works out okay. Some of their productions can tend to get a little bit grainy at that point, but this one does not. Decent scene, though more mechanical than hot. Jessica has her mouth ready for a facial but the guy isn't on the same page, delivering a chest full instead. Oh, and we get a jump cut that shows us this is a dream. I think.
But that's not important right now, as one of my favourite people in the whole wide world (let alone simply in porn) Eva Angelina is performing. Talk about reason one for wanting to work in this industry: one scene with Eva and I'd have to think about retirement just for it not getting any more awesome than that. Lots of guy down on girl time in this scene which should balance things out even further in making this a couples friendly film. I did like the way Eva's top magically disappeared, showing off all of that fantastic body of hers. And because this is Eva, we get one of her signature reverse cowgirl performances. I mean, talk about a girl built to do this. Just great stuff. A pretty good sized face shot in the end, too. Definitely a winner of a scene.
There's a lot more plot-type stuff throughout the rest of this, but that's fluff. The sex is good, the action is well-shot (as it should be with someone with Armstrong's pedigree at the helm), and the finished product is worthy of your time. While it won't be a picture of the year candidate, it's another couples-friendly film that would do well in the lineup of you and your significant other. Hopefully, in a world where rankings appear to be everything, that kind of appreciation is noted at Wicked.
