In-House Review - Aug 21 2012

We're getting into porn blockbuster season, and it seems that Digital Playground is sticking their toes in the water with Nurses 2, the kind of film - and sequel - that will surely do well, as they get all of their contract stars out and about, putting together a many-scene spectacle. If the overdone, identical-looking blonde thing works for you, you're going to love this and just about everything Digital Playground does. I'm sorry that it doesn't do nearly as much for me, but I'll do my best to give a fair review nonetheless. In the past, I had had some trouble with the deluxe boxes from Digital Playground, where all of the discs were loose inside the box. This time, the plastic seems to be more sturdy and everything was held perfectly in place. Nicely done on the last piece of the puzzle. We open with Ben English heading to the office, and then there are nurses all dancing and posing for some smartphones. I guess. I know these aren't even close to real nurse uniforms because my former/occasional girlfriend (we're
close friends these days) still sometimes lets me take her out of hers. I'm an expert. Why is this part of the film here? Erik Everhard is distracted by a bent over nurse, and manages to drop his pen next to her to get a closer look. There is no way OSHA, the FDA, the Joint Commission, or anyone else is going to be satisfied with that lack of pants. Erik is then in an exam room, and is trying to check out his own ass before admiring his guns. Now he's doing reps with the lamp. My head hurts. Now he gets the idea to dress up as a doctor to get closer to the nurses, and I love the extra lighting on his face for the "a ha!" moment. Full points for that bit of subtlety. Dr. Ferrera shows up, too. I guess I'm wondering why none of the women are doctors. Why are we reinforcing stereotypes like this? Erik is thrown right in with a guy having seizures and tries the "slap him" approach to medicine. Now he's doing the worst CPR in history. Now he sneaks into an exam room to escape the actual medicine, and voila, there's a blonde. What a surprise. The exam bit here is kind of humourous, so I give them credit for that, but maybe just a bit over the top, too. Slow developing, but you can guess what ultimately happens. Now we have Selena Rose in a coma. Nice that they still used a wash brush to put on her makeup, though. And then it's a dream sequence scene. I haven't seen one of those like that in some time. A bit retro, that. Then Jesse Jane comes in to flirt with Dr. Ferrera while he's having lunch. In what appears to be an operating room. That can't be sterilized. Then they're looking at Digital Playground magazine, where Jesse Jane and Robby D are in large print at the top. Well, at least they're honest about the powerbrokers at the studio. There's an advertisement for Mothers & Daughters on the back, a review I did a few weeks ago. And again, you can guess what happens next, though this time there's a lot more heat to it, as well as some of Robby's patented panning shots. Still, as I noted in my review of Just Like Mom, he seems to be getting over his obsession with panning close-ups a bit, and that's welcome news. While it's supposed to be for the setting, the lighting could stand to be just a bit better here. As it is one of the big titles of the year, of course there's an orgy in the end. And really, it's ultimately a fun film, though not perfect. Digital Playground does bring out all of their talent, including their trademarked names (which is just weird to me). With 2 DVDs and 1 Blu-Ray, you're certainly getting your money's worth out of Nurses 2, as well. While no one will mistake this film for Pirates, as an example of what a larger budget film can be, Nurses 2 seems to fit the bill.

Sexual Healing

By: Diesel
In-House Review - Aug 09 2012

Nurses 2 fulfills every high expectation one associates with a brand-name like Digital Playground by delivering a couples-oriented feature filled with expertly shot, hardcore moments that match the erotic intensity of the better gonzo flicks. Although the subject of nurses has been a porn staple and cliche ever since the days of Linda Lovelace through Taylor Rain, only a few particular titles stand out in my mind as worth of repeat viewing. (In fact, a quick internet survey reveals that there are over 250 adult titles with the word "nurse" used in one form or another) Certainly, every studio has exploited the universal fantasy of women in tight white uniforms or candy-striped outfits (check out how mouth-watering Riley Steele looks within the first five minutes) practicing their own brand of sexual healing to a horny, but helpless patient in need of a warm mouth or an even warmer pussy. However, Digital Playground is one of those rare studios which takes an otherwise overdone theme and gives it a freshly erotic feeling, thanks to the ambitious production (the setting really does look like a medical center, as opposed to some cheaply dressed closet with a bed and jar full of tongue depressors), and consistently solid sex scenes which emphasize chemistry, sensuality and passion as well hardcore physical therapy. Journeymen porn viewers may notice the absence of anal and threesomes (in any male-female combination) in this flick, but the epic finale helps make-up for such omissions. The original Nurses movie was a mind (and load) blower based on its stunning, superstar cast which included Jenna Haze, Sasha Grey, Riley Steele, Gabriella Fox and Jesse Jane, just to name a few. The follow-up flick, appropriately titled Nurses 2, easily matches the star power thanks to the presence of Alexis Texas, Selena Rose, Kayden Kross, Bibi Jones and returning performers Miss Jane and Miss Steele. The generous three-hour running length assures that fans will get their favorite girl will get her fair share of onscreen "sexy time" including some encore performances from Bibi Jones (who generously shares her body with Erik Everhard in the first scene, and then with Mick Blue later in the movie) as well as Jesse, Kayden, Riley and Selena who partake in their own individual girl-boy scenes and then "gang up" on poor, poor (heavy sarcasm there) Manuel Ferrara for an orgiastic finale. A short but sweet blooper reel and a nearly 30 minute Behind The Scenes segment adds even more value to an outstanding main feature. And once again, I appeal to those who have not been diagnosed as being legally blind, or else refuse to buy even the cheapest, no-name brand of high definition TVs, to take a long, lustful look at the eye-popping beauty of Digital Playground's Blu-ray discs in general, and Nurses 2 in specific. And even if you can't afford to purchase a Magnet Box, Sorny or Panaphonics widescreen TV, the package includes a DVD version of the movie, which is probably the best kind of bonus one could want for the sake of convenience, as well as a third disc for supplemental materials including a BTS featurette. But whatever the format, Nurses provides the kind of tender loving care one could ever want in mandatory healthcare as well as erotic entertainment.

Short Shorts

By: Silverstreek
Customer Review - Sep 30 2013

Short scenes, not much longer than preview scenes. One scene with Selena Rose lasted less than 12 minutes and the cowgirl position was about 13 seconds - had sneezes last longer than that. All girls are gorgeous but director should check bottoms of girls
feet. If director is going to have girl barefoot, then bottom of feet should be clean. Jessie Jane's feet were filthy dirty.

Digital Playground's Nurses 2

By: Dr. Chauntelle
Industry Review - Aug 03 2012

Dr. Chauntelle does not use a rating system. Five stars is a default setting only.

Oh Digital Playground, you always make the same movie!

Well, not really exactly... but between Babysitters giving off Body Heat, Cheerleaders, and Titlicious Top Guns with Island Fever, I've begun to notice a lot of what I'd like to refer to as DP Signature Elements - contract girl ensemble casts with one or two hott extras thrown in for a spicy mix, dudes pulled from the same performer pool, and the almost inevitable orgy scene at the end. This formula predominates every level on the DP XXX Film Caliber Spectrum, which sounds so yaaaaawn.

But it's called branding people, and occasionally there is some variability.

Regarding the aforementioned DP XXX Film Caliber Spectrum: Digital Playground makes a lot of throw away titles, like The [God Awful] Crib. But, when they're actually trying, their projects are generally very good. See Fighters for proof of supreme awesome (and no orgy!!)

Anyway, somewhere between The Crib and Fighters are movies like Nurses 2... (and Mothers & Daughters)

Nurses 2 was cute and kinda campy. It also captured the DP Signature Elements formula precisely. With a description like this...
"Dr. Ben English has a hard enough time keeping his badly behaved staff in line. The added stress of his sex-crazed daughter BiBi Jones humping everyone in the hospital is too much for his ticker! Luckily, Nurse Nikita Von James knows mouth to mouth. Nurses Kayden Kross and Jesse Jane are locked in a battle of wits vs. tits for the affections of Dr. Manuel Ferrara. Nurse Riley Steele shows off her hottest moves for ultimate poser Erik Everhard, and curvaceous patient Alexis Texas looks to Dr. James Deen to get to the bottom of her swollen booty all while the staff is working 'round the clock to bring Selena Rose out of her coma. An orgy is just what the doctor ordered!"

...how could it not?

But whatever!!

You get what you get with Nurses 2, and what you get is exactly what you'd expect - a few funny quirky moments, some totally random things thrown in for the sake of a sex scene (I'm talking to you, Alexis Texas and James Deen scene), Kayden Kross having sex with Manuel Ferrara, Bibi Jones being completely unappealing, and Riley Steele being incredibly adorable.

With the exception of films like Fighters, watching a Digital Playground flick is a lot like going to a piano bar - no matter the city, you know there will be drinking and carousing and recognizable songs. It's not the most original activity, but it's usually a decent time.
