Like Dr. Jay, who also reviewed this film,
I am a huge fan of Celeste. After searching
the video stores here for films featuring her
(which are few in number these days),
I jumped at the chance to buy a DVD copy of
Borderline.
The disc itself is an average quality transfer
of video to digital. Sound is only fair, and I
had to turn the volume up considerably to hear
the dialogue, for those of you who care about
that. As with the other Vivid DVD's I've seen,
the special features worked unreliably, if at
all, and there was some slow-down between scenes.
However, all detractions from the DVD's quality
aside, the film is one of Celeste's most
seductive, sexiest works. The acting in it is
better than that of most adult films, and even
the sex that does not feature Celeste is good!
For fans of Celeste, I highly recommend this DVD.

I bought Borderline because I melt at the thought of Celeste. I had already seen the video, so I new what to expect. As always, Celeste is the hottest star in porn. Her M-F and F-F scenes sizzled. Scenes that did not include Celeste were OK, but nothing to write home about.
I was very disappointed with the DVD features. Even though there are several kind of coolr things about the introduction (a virtual reality hallway that leads to various doors that you may enter), there was very little use of multiple angles, and none of those few featured Celeste.
Celeste fans must purchase this DVD because it's really her only feature on DVD. Too bad Vivid didn't provide a few more bells and whistles

She Says: Although the story line in this film doesn't hold together too well, it still serves up plenty of hot action. Steven St Croix, playing the ass-hole Ugly American tourist and boyfriend, Daniel, to a tee, puts together his best in-and-out action with his mistress during a weekend in Old Mexico. Unfortunately for him, she is in the middle of all the action, with him and without him. Celeste, as Julia, finds her hot weekend fling only warm and turns up the heat with the steaming Felicia as the queen of "room service." When Daniel comes upon them getting together on the hotel's front staircase, he starts to question his love's morals. But the action continues when the silent Tony Montana becomes her guide to the seamier side of the small town. St. Croix, as usual, puts himself out sucking and fucking at every opportunity. Celeste meanders from one fuck fest to another, once she decides that her lover is a little less than open in his outlook. The dreamy quality of the sex scenes aid in sustaining that outer world cum.
He Says: Who forgot to mention the first scene in the film stars the porn icon Tyffany Million? Is her appearance a bonus when you watch the movie? Talk about a guy who has the best of both worlds, Tyffany at home doing whatever he wants and Celeste, as his mistress Julia, who is literally panting after him on the road. He turns down an obvious three-some invitation from the maid, who happens onto them making love in their hotel room, then runs to the bathroom to wash himself off, after a hot fuck session with Julia. The choice of Tony Montana, as the town father, helped coalesce the Old Mexico theme. He adds a humorous presence to the town's perversion, which he appears to ram-rod. When Julia wanders off after dinner for a breath of fresh air, and finds a barn orgy, she watches but then is drawn in for a hot girl on girl licking. Another even hotter scene involves Tony Montana giving a hot Mexican duo, one of whom is Alicia Rio in a cameo appearance, to Daniel to use for his own pleasure. After protesting, he takes them on for some pungent sex. Two cum minimum on this one scene alone. Julia finds a street festival, and Tony Montana late another night. A fun frolic in the streets with a symbolistic bull fight, with a nubile bull and toreador, eventually leads to her dissatisfaction with being a suburban arm piece. Daniel ends up losing his perfect gig, by being unable to partake of the delights offered. Julia, however, makes her choice as well, obviously sharpening her skills in Spanish as she goes along.
Video
Realizing this is one of the first DVDs to hit the market it is not the best video to DVD transfer, by no means is this a typical Vivid transfer. They are much better. But after saying all that, the transfer is not that bad, with some artifacts, with some pretty bad editing.
Audio
I do take issue with the sound. It just sucks. There are times I could barely make out what is being said. I like to hear my dirty talk.
Supplements
The supplements are Vivid's standards, which by other studio's standards are pretty high.
Conclusion
Even with the bad video to DVD transfer this is a fun one to watch with lots of hot action.

A 1995 movie about a couple whose car breaks down in Mexico in a town where all the natives fuck like crazed weasels, gets back in circulation as Vivid continues to mine its vaults for new DVD releases.
Although I couldn't find multiple angle coverage (the age of the footage predates DVD), the superlative transfer of the luminous cinematography by Ralph Parfait and the sheer star power of the now retired Celeste make up for any shortcomings on the tech front.
Centerpiece, an outdoor nighttime orgy with 20 or so players, won an AVN Award for Group Sex Scene and still packs a wallop.
