Classic noir in the tradition of Deep Throat 4 out of 5.00 - Film: 5 Extras: 3 Video: 4 Audio: 4 - 8/19/1999
You know, we've all made fun of the plot, or lack there of in porn. It's just the stuph that gives you a rest between masturbating or allows porn stars to call themselves actresses. Now I won't go so far as to say the acting and storyline of Looker is that amazing but whoever had the concept for this one got something right. Looker takes the classic traditions of film noir and becomes what noir always pretended it wanted to be. Now this may sound like a highhanded look at this movie but this film's true value is in its quirky multi-layered look at more traditional film styles. Course it doesn't hurt that Lauren Montgomery and Silvia Saint have a couple incredibly hot scenes.

So we've got the son of a murdered cop. We've got an unsolved case that keeps the son from retiring. We've got a murderess that may just be the embodiment of the femme fatale. When you add in the requisite smoking, drinking, sex, corruption, deception, and the marginality of a cop straying from the path of the good obedient public servant, you've got noir. You should go rent something like the Maltese Falcon and then watch this. You'll be amazed that you don't reach for the remote after a sex scene is over.

Yes, yes. I know. This is a porno and you want to hear about the sex. Well the first sex scene is nothing spectacular. Lauren, wearing a black wig and a dominatrix outfit, gets impaled by two bozos in an alleyway. No lead in, just sex. The thing is she looks really creepy in this wig. It's kinda like a second grade English teacher gone horribly wrong. What makes it worse is that her real hair peaks through the wig at her neck and makes her look like she has a hairy neck. And the sex isn't even that good. Later on though, things get a little spicy.

Sylvia Saint is a super hot fuck toy. I have to say that I've enjoyed watching her every time she's graced my screen. This is no exception. This girl will do anything. It astounds me every time because I can't get over such a sweet looking girl getting soo dirty. In this flick she's playing the part of the most talented whore in the city. The only time we get to see her is when she's doing.... favors for the cops who offer protection after the mob blew town. She gets some serious dick while another cop just sits back and watches. Beautiful.

The other note worthy scene is our extra special femme fatale Lauren. Without the nasty wig, this girl is a real looker. She reminds me of a lioness with the raw sexuality she exudes. As for what's special about this one being on DVD. Well, the filming and about half the music are high quality. Since it's not just hot lights on sweaty flesh this is pretty important. The extra features are kinda nice. It's got bios on the cast. I love to read about the girls romping around on my screen. We've got a couple trailers (even though it looks like a ton, you can only select four). There's an ok slideshow and scene selections. Oh and they tell you the name of a web page instead of bothering to make it a link. It's worth getting this one on DVD but not absolutely necessary.

So this film isn't amazing as a porn. For you guys who are just going to fast-forward to the sex scenes, I'd suggesting checking out some other titles. But for you guys who find the humor inherent in porn and want to see something fun, I'd give this a try. You might just be surprised.

Commentary: When I saw Pleasure accept the Best Film award at AVN, I asked myself, "Why haven't I seen this
on DVD yet???!!!!" Well, the good folks at Pleasure provided me a copy of the film, (must have been in my head
that night!) and I got right down to business checking out AVN's Best Film. What I saw mostly reiterated the
feelings of the AVN voters, with a few comments regarding the transfer to DVD, and some other issues I'll describe
below.
This is one of what I call a few "high brow" adult films. The plot is totally engrossing, and acting is top notch.
All of the sets are tailored to a "T" for the mood and setting of the film. I immediately noticed the time and effort
that went into setting up each of the scenarios, right down to the lighting, and fog effects. Though, the vodka
bottle with a dark brown liquid in it did throw me a bit....
The story tells of a hard drinking son-of-a-cop-cop, Pike (Vince) who is haunted by the mystery of his father's
murder, and the unsolved case he was working on, The Femme Fatale murders. His partner, Sandra (the venerable
Shanna), is concerned about his well being, and tries to keep him on the straight and narrow, covering for him,
and helping him work through the ghosts of his past. Her roommate, and lover Jacklyn Lick is somewhat worried
that her puss may be headed for some dick, but Sandra assures her "You know how feel about guys...".
Seems Pike has unofficially reopened the decades old case, and tries to tie it into the 75 murders that have
taken place over the last few months. Someone catches onto this, and tries to run down Detective Pike, but that
just proves to strengthen his resolve to solve the mystery. I'm not spilling any more beans on this one, as the
story really makes this one hell of a DVD. One of the best plots and performances I have seen in an Adult film. The
sex in this disc is worked in to the plot in all the right places. One could not exist without the other. The plot
needs the sex to make it complete, and the sex finds itself nestled quite well in opportune places.
The opening scene involves our Femme Fatale (Lauren) doing her thing in an alley with Steve Hatcher and Ian
Daniels. She sports very short black hair, tremendous nipples, and some very sexy duds while she takes on both
studs. Lauren takes a seriously hard finger pounding while the trio is standing that evolves quickly into an
alternating blow job sequence. Lauren is then screwed by both guys while blowing the other in a variety of
interesting positions. She finishes up by using a razor on the boys (!), but not before milking them both dry.
Vince is featured in the next scene during a dream sequence in which he has the pleasure of pounding both
Shanna and diner hooker Erica Bella. Vince expertly licks Erica's cooze just before both girls share his ample staff.
Vince returns the favor by alternately doing both girls while the non penetrated girl is happily lapped by the other!
Vince puts forth some intense effort as he pounds Shanna doggy style, and the girls share the diner's specialty,
the Vouyer protein shake, to finish off a very well done snippet of sex.
A flashback to the times of Vince's dad proves to be the highlight of the film for me, where platinum haired
Penthouse pet turned pud puller, Silvie Saint, takes on Team Slovakia left wing, Hakan Serbes (no, just
kidding...but that is a great hockey name...like Hakan Loob...no?). The two go at it initially in black and white, but
it quickly becomes colorized, and boy, does that pink stand out! Hakan rims the lovely Saint to kick things off, and
then gets his member gobbled after doing the same on the nearly shaven twat of Silvie. The real action starts
though, when Silvie reverse straddles Hakan for a wild pounding on the chair they are seated at. In a great stick
handling move, Hakan deftly moves his shaft into the open net I like to call Silvie's ass! (Can you tell the NHL All
Star game is on today?) He easily slides it in, and proceeds to provide her with a spirited ride. Hot, hot hot. She
takes his money shot in the mouth after some straight screwing, and it appears he had one heck of a time, as she

Shanna and Jacklyn Lick provide some steamy girl girl that involves a realistic dildo that they alternately invade
each other with. Nice oral from both of the girls, and some very well done camera rate this one high. I was
mesmerized by the skill with which these lappers wielded the dildo, and with just how far Shanna spread herself to

The movie ends with Vince and hooker (Femme?) Lauren having a grand old time at his place. He picks this
hooker up, and decides to screw her back home. She blows Vince, and they screw with her on top for some time
before he flips her over and around, and literally piston whips her! He looked like he was hitting her from behind
like the cylinder of a V-8!!! Beating off in her mouth, they drift off to sleep and...???

From a DVD perspective: Shot on film, (of course), this disc had a bit of trouble making it to DVD. The picture
quality was decent, but I did notice that grainy feature that many of these film to DVD's suffer from. Not as crisp
as you'd like it to be. Colors were decent, though not spectacular. Sometimes hard to see the dark scenes.
The sound was a problem as it is not in perfect sync with the video. As an example, Vince slaps Lauren's ass,
but you don't hear the "crack" for a spit second. The lips move a tiny bit before the words begin as well. It was
annoying, but I did see myself get used to it eventually. Still, it shouldn't be there.
The extras were what we have seen before from Pleasure, and that is to say pretty good. Nothing spectacular,
but enough for you to know this is DVD, not VHS.

Intangibles: Simply outstanding plot, performance and production. The transfer itself hurts the stars quite a bit,
but if you want a movie you and a mate can watch from start to finish this is it. That is, if you can keep on
separate sides of the bed long enough. It is truly an "Adult Movie". Good looking cast, some real sexual highs, and
the first sentence of this section give it a couple of bonus stars!
I'd get this one. It may not be a ruler DVD, but it is an awesome movie. And who buys VHS anymore anyway?

I'd never heard of this film before the 1999 AVN
awards, where it won five awards. When I found out
it had been released on DVD, I was delighted. After
watching the feature, I was just plain mystified.
If this was the best adult film of 1998, the industry
is in alot of trouble, or should be. Mind you, I'm
a discriminating and informed porn viewer who doesn't
see every piece of crap that rolls out of porn
valley (there are several thousand tapes a year), but
this outing seemed pretty darn average.

Best Screenplay? The plot, some film noir nonsense,
was barely adequate even for a porn flick. Vince is
the cop son of a cop. His father was killed
by a woman who had committed the "femme fatale" murders
in the 1950s. (Which makes no sense,
because Vince does not look like he is is 45 years old).
Now there is a female murderer on the loose again who
fucks guys in alleys before slashing them to death
with a razor. She's stalking Vince, and Vince thinks
she's the same one who killed his father. Vince, the
detective, has to be told by Shanna that it couldn't
possibly be the same woman, but maybe her daughter.
(Oh, by the way, Vince's name is Pike. Come on didn't
anybody see Ninn's "Sex"?) The next thing we see,
the woman approaches "Pike" and says, "where
do you want to do this?" He invites her inside his
apartment, they fuck, he falls asleep and she kills
him. Even in porndom, this is a fairly lame excuse
for a plot.

Best editing? Whoever edited it must have edited out
the plot, while all of the sex scenes remain overly
lengthy. The final coupling between Montgomery and
Voyeur features an unflattering camera angle of Lauren's
not very well toned thigh. That could have stood some
editing.

Best cinemtography? Here I have to admit that
the dark, film noir mood the director was looking
for is substantially realized. Even so, it is hard
to believe that this is the best out there.

It makes you wonder what the hell is going
on over at AVN. Are these people on the take or
somthing? Or have they simply been watching too
much porn, and it has rotted their brains.

Technically, the DVD is okay. The video is actually
pretty decent when you consider the dark, underlit
look of the film. The audio is good, except that the
dialogue is just slightly out of sync with lip movements.

On the whole, this is a very average product, with
average plot and performances, and pretty average
sex. The exception is the scene with the incredible
Silvie Saint, who looks like a angel and takes it up
the ass like a trooper.

But best film? Not if it was competing with Flashpoint,
or alot of other films I've seen lately. Really, they've
got to lighten up on the drugs, the booze, or both
over at AVN.

You know, both Cramer and writer Martin Brimmer seem to have a thing for starting movies in alleys. (OK, I can think of only one other time when they did this, but hey, a pattern is pattern when you're reviewing a mystery.) While I won't put it above Clockwork as my favorite Cramer film, but 'Looker' is a winner, through and through.

It's a shame that such a great movie should end up as such a crappy DVD. Nic Cramer's stylish porn noir about a detective who becomes obsessed with the murder suspect he's tailing wasn't just one of the best films to be released by Pleasure last year, it was also the Best Film winner at the '99 AVN Awards. Why, then, was it treated to a below-average transfer with muddy audio, and mild to severe pixelation in the dark scenes (which make up most of the film)?

The lighting, sets, camera angles and all those filmatic elements are as good as you will see in porn. Vince and Shanna do a very good job handling their roles as well as their sex scenes. Oh yeah, the sex. Shanna is great in her two scenes, but it is the Eruo-babes who steal the spotlight in this film. Silvia Saint and Ericka Bella give scenes that are blistering. While I won't put it above Clockwork as my favorite Cramer film, but 'Looker' is a winner, through and through.
