What do you get when you take some of adult film's best veterans and team them up with its hottest young talent? One of the best titles to come out on DVD in the last several months!
Carnal Witness is a well-plotted, sizzling feature from director Bud Lee that will leave you drained, both physically and mentally by the movie's end.
The movie opens with Cheyenne Silver moving into a new apartment. Later in the film, we find out why Cheyenne has moved to a new residence, and while I won't give too much of the interesting plot away, Cheyenne is haunted by visions. She seems to be able to see things that are taking place while she is sleeping...and a mysterious "watcher" also seems to be nearby during all of her visions.
Cheyenne's neighbor is played by Nina Hartley, who tries to comfort her by introducing her to lesbian sex. The scene between the two women is especially hot, since Nina takes on the role of the experienced older woman and Cheyenne plays the young innocent.
Later, Nina introduces Cheyenne to Randy Spears, the local law enforcement who is trying to get to the bottom of her visions. The trail leads him to the home of Hershel Savage and his wife, T.J. Hart, both of whom have something to do with the mystery. It's hard to talk about
Carnal Witness without giving away too much of the story, but in short, T.J. has been having an affair with Chris Cannon, and Hershel is not too happy about it. How all this fits into the visions Cheyenne has been having will be revealed by the end of the movie.
We finally do find out what Cheyenne's connection is to all these people, but the resolution seems just a bit too neat and tidy. Leave it to director Bud Lee, however, to give us a bit of a cliffhanger to the film, and one that suggests that there may be a bit more to this story than was resolved by the time the credits finally roll.
Carnal Witness develops some well-rounded and interesting characters, enough that the non-sex stuff is just as fun to watch as the sexual encounters. I particularly enjoyed the chemistry between Randy and Cheyenne's characters, and some of the visions that Cheyenne had during the course of the film were downright (dare I use the word?)...spooky.
The video and audio are top notch on this DVD, and despite the fact that the audio is only 2.0 surround, it is crisp and there is a nice balance between the level of the dialogue and the level of the soundtrack music. The only real disappointment with this disc is in the area of features. This movie really deserved the deluxe treatment from Adam & Eve, but all we get is a photo gallery, some trailers, cast biographies, a web link, plus the standard chapter selection with the option to jump to the pop shots or climax of each sex scene. A behind the scenes featurette or a running commentary would have been more than welcome.
Whether you are a fan of good couples porn, or just a single guy or gal who really likes a good story with your adult material,
Carnal Witness is a top-notch production. I really enjoyed the mix of some of my all-time favorites like Nina, Chloe, Randy and Hershel all together in a film with "up and cummers" like Cheyenne and Allysin Chaynes. By putting this great cast together, both the acting and the sex sizzle on-screen.
Carnal Witness is easily one of the best features available on DVD, and worthy of a spot in any porn collection.
