Better entry into well-worn series. 3.5 out of 5.00 - Film: 4 Extras: 3 Video: 4 Audio: 3 - 3/17/2002
After a few videos which may have missed the mark in some respects, this venerable series hits its stride again. First and foremost, Barely Legal #18 collects a cast of better looking young women than have shown up in some of the prior entries, and while the settings aren't always the most creative or believable, they do serve the purpose. What this video lacks in luxury or production values is made up for in a dedication to showing bright, detailed screwing as if the pages of Hustler magazine had leaped to life.

Opening the video is Tawny, an 18 year old (of course!) model who is trying to earn a few extra bucks by doing a single-girl masturbation video. She gets so turned on by the process that she just has to seduce the young photographer, Ricky, and make a far more explicit video. This is a really solid scene overall with the stylistic black leather sofa and room full of video monitors and technical equipment. It's only a minor distraction that the mature voice-over sounds nothing like Tawny's real-life innocent voice. Both of the performers here are very toned and fit, making them a real pleasure to watch together. Ricky in fact looks like a machine pumping away at Tawny. While I'm not gay, the scene is equally fun to watch for both the guy's and girl's sexual athletics which lead to her upside down over his body before the final sticky finish.

Chloe, a Brit export who took a job driving a truck in the U.S. for the summer, uses her opportunity to get in a screw from a co-worker on the docks. Craig, in this case with an accent of unknown origin, is happy to oblige this punky little Euro-vixen. The two make it in the back of the truck she was unable to drive correctly (wrong side of the road and all) on top of boxes stacked to offer each other the perfect access to each others bodies. She's a little more natural and realistic than the other girls in this video (maybe a result of her accent) and that increases my interest in the scene. You know that symbol musician Prince change his name to a few years ago and then changed it back to an actual word? Well, Chloe has that symbol tattooed just above her ass. On anyone else, I'd call it a severe lack of taste. On her, I'll just call it a cute little distinguishing feature, kind of like the motorcycle boots she keeps on during sex.

The next two scenes aren't particular standouts in any way. One is a pretty standard poolside lesbian scene in which the not-so-innocent schoolgirl explores her sapphic fantasies after being lotioned by her reform-school girlfriend. One thing leads to another and, before you know it, there just happens to be a huge yellow rubber phallus being pushed into the tattooed "bad girl" by Little Miss Innocent. The next scene stars Seanna as a newbie worker at a full-service massage parlor. Her first client pays for the full treatment, and she dispenses with any pretense of theraputic massage straightaway. The two in this scene aren't below average, but the setup is sort of flat, and the sound in this scene is the weakest of the video. She also seems a little less than enthused at the prospect of his orgasm winding up on her face.

In the last scene, a young woman called Sunrise comes home from a rave to find a strange man passed out in her bed. Not wanting to let the evening go to waste, she does what anyone would do - treat him to a first-class screw. Sunrise is the star of this video (and conveniently the box cover model). She has the look that could be translatable to cheerleader to Britney Spears concert-goer to Hustler magazine cover. While the sex here isn't outrageous or particularly intense, she is a joy to watch in most of it. Incidentally, an alternate version of this scene is cut into the phone-sex advert that runs at the front of this DVD. It's encouraging to see a girl as naturally and approachably beautiful as she is in a Hustler production, and I guess that we will see more of her in the future.

For as big an operation as Hustler is, they tend to skimp on the extras for their DVD line. The standard trailers are there (and it's about time they rotated the selection for their DVDs). This title at least contains the profile of Clive McLean which is enjoyable as well as a new behind-the-scenes video about the making of one of the Barely Legal titles in particular. It's good to see that McLean takes tea at 4pm as a civilized person should. In the future, it would be nice to see Hustler add a little more robust feature section instead of the multiple phone sex ads and rehashes of old material. Otherwise, like most of their products, this is a solid entry which fits well into the Hustler line.

Aside from #12, this teen flick wasn't so bad. Got to go with reviewer J.B.'s input on this one. The effects are clean with multilple sex positions for each girl. The only reason this fuck flick stands out is because of the girls. Tawny, the very first blonde, takes the "pink taco" in my book. And then Sunrise finishes it off with a little doggie action from the side. That particular scene was hot! But you don't have much in the middle for support. However, if you are a collector of the Barely Legal series, then you'll be pleased with this one.
