Scrue is a light parody of the popular board game (or less successful mainstream movie) Clue. Get it?....Scrue....Clue. The subtle similarities don't end there. There's also characters such as Col. Bastard, Professor Cum, and Mr. Cream. In the center of this zany set of characters is the equally wacky Joey Silvera playing the detective tasked with solving a murder. As always, Joey is great and really shows his competence in pulling off comedic roles...not an easy task in a porno.
The story begins as the cast of characters and Joey are concluding an Amateur Detective Society discussion set in a large mansion. Following the meeting, Joey heads upstairs to relax where he's eventually joined by the maid, played by a young Jill Kelly. Sporting an all natural chest, Jill helps Joey work up a sweat. Always the observant detective, Joey notices sounds of passion emanating from other parts of the house in addition to Jill's moans of pleasure. He makes a mental note of this and then pops his load on Jill's ass crack. When he heads downstairs he notices the lifeless body Miss Harlot (Asia Carrera) propped up in a chair..."this woman had the smile of someone who'd been orgasmed to death." Determined to uncover the perpetrator of this crime, Joey begins questioning the others.
After questioning Professor Cum (Roxanne Hall) Joey discovers her alibi is Col. Bastard (Bobby Vitale). As it turns out, the two were screwing in the kitchen at the time of the murder. In fact, their encounter in the kitchen is one of the highlights of this film. The good professor dusts her books of the kitchen table and submits herself to a first class boning. Bobby even slips it into her pink ass, as she grits her teeth and rubs her clit. When Bobby jacks his load onto her stomach, Roxanne pulls his hand away from his cock to lick the globs of jizz off of his fingers, and then goes down on his still smoldering dick. This is a great scene largely due to Roxanne's nasty attitude...and that sexy accent doesn't hurt either.
As it turns out, everyone was involved in some sort of sexual encounter at the time of the murder. Miss Whip (Shelby Stevens) was busy analyzing Mr. Cream's (Ian Daniels) lead pipe. Following her encounter with Mr. Cream, Miss Whip had another encounter; this time with Professor Cum. Meanwhile Connie Lingus (Chasey Lain) was "all tied up" in her bedroom with Col. Bastard....or was she? How could Col. Bastard be with two women at the same time? Unless Connie was lying and was really involved in a rug munching session with Miss Harlot. I won't give away the surprise ending. It's not as confusing (or convincing) as it may sound.
Other than the nice menus and photo gallery,
Scrue doesn't get any special treatment on DVD. The picture quality is average at best. Shot on film, the video transfer exhibits a lot of graininess which may be attributed to either the original print or a bad transfer. The audio isn't that great but it gets the job done in a 5.1 surround presentation. As usual, Vivid tries to compensate for its deficiencies by throwing in a bunch of extras. This one features about 10 bonus scenes; half of them with Asia Carrera. There's enough content here for an entire other feature, but I would have preferred more title specific extras such as a commentary or interviews. The feature is also plagued by the addition of phony multiple angles. If that's not bad enough, there's no way to turn of the angle indicator icon that annoyingly shows up every time an angle switch is possible. In the past, Vivid has provided the option to turn this icon off.
Despite its shortcomings on DVD,
Scrue benefits from a clever script, a talented cast, and decent production values. Although it has the feel of a Paul Thomas movie, the film was actually directed by Ben Cameron...is this one of Thomas' pseudonyms? Fans of Jill Kelly and Asia Carrera will want to note their all-natural appearance in this feature; in other words, they didn't have fake tits yet. This was also filmed before Vivid initiated their "condom only" policy. Bobby Vitale wears a rubber in his scene with Chasey, but other than that this production is condom free. So if you're looking for a solid movie with plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor,
Scrue is a good selection.
