In Defense marks Chloe Jones' first appearance in a Vivid DVD. Unfortunately, this Chi Chi LaRue directed feature doesn't quite live up to the high expectations fans were hoping for when Chloe became a Vivid contract girl last February. But Chloe was dropped from her contract back in July after only a six month stint in which she only made a handful of videos. So there won't be many more Vivid productions listed in her filmography in the future, a fact making this feature all the more disappointing. Still, the mediocre feature is only slightly frustrating when compared with the annoying ads packed at the beginning of this disc, most of which can't be skipped. It's sad that a company like Vivid has to resort to such cheap tactics.
The feature begins with Chloe sitting in an interrogation room, with two cops (Michael Scorpio and Lezley Zen) pacing around her. Apparently she's being questioned about the theft of some jewels. Chloe's internal dialogue gives way to a flashback where we see her (dressed only in lingerie) lying back on a pink swinging bed while Michael Scorpio lurks in the background. He kneels next to the bed and starts munching away on Chloe, resulting in some grin inducing dialogue. The improvised lines continue as Chloe goes to work on Michael's cock, using minimal handwork. The audio is also quite murky, particularly the voice-overs. As usual, plenty of attention is spent on the extras, slightly increasing the value of the disc. There are five bonus scenes here, each featuring the women seen in this movie, minus DoLorian. The bonus scene with Chloe Jones is taken from Inside the Mind of Chloe Jones, in a one-on-one encounter with Dillon Day. There's also a "Bonus Room" that contains a Chloe photo gallery, a movie gallery, and a short behind the scenes featurette that runs for about 10 minutes.
In Defense is a lightweight feature that isn't fully committed to the genre. The links between the five scenes are only suggested through snippets of dialogue. Chloe's voice-over plays like an after thought needed to build up the story, but even that falls flat. The poor production values of the DVD doesn't help matters either. Perhaps this would have worked better as a vignette piece. Still, all five scenes are more than adequate featuring strong performances by all involved. Just don't expect a thought provoking story, or a clear picture for that matter.
