Mr. Pete has, at least in this release, convinced me - subjectively one who doesn't care for POV's - that it can be done well! The company behind this film, Mayhem, is new on the proverbial porn block, but definitely has earned a solid following... for good reason. Mr. Pete's
POV Perversions is just another reason why this studio is going strong.
Even fans of the point-of-view genre have to admit that most of these flicks are similar to the point of redundancy. In reality and with all due respect, it must be damn difficult to create something new, or present a great deal of variety when making this kind of movie. Basically, for those that may not be familiar with it, POV means the movie is designed and filmed in such a way that you, the viewer, are enable to place yourself in the cocksman's shoes. Rather than the standard third person scenario, where the viewer is more of voyeur to a sexual situation, POV sort of puts you in the scene by rarely allowing the male talent to be photographed beyond there respective appendages. Apparently this format works for many fans, or this genre wouldn't be so popular. My issue with it, as a whole, goes back to the redundancy factor.
However, and pleasantly surprising, Mr. Pete combined raw female-focused porno with some subtle, yet effective cinematic juice. Rather than bombarding the viewer with immediate footage of anonymous dicks poking hot females orifices from the start, Pete takes viewers for a short photographically aesthetic tease first. Each of the starring ladies presented in shades of color and sepia, with intentionally abrupt angle and location settings. This in effect leads us in with a small dose of mystery, a bit more anticipation, and, soon enough, a finely tuned sense of what is to come. Don't be worried that this is artcore though. By no means at all. Pete intertwines plenty of quick shots depicting hard anal play throughout the opening sequences of tease. In short, this is not timid or light porn. It is indeed still a deviously done POV.
POV Perversions is comprised of five equally-engaging chapters. One of these presents a two girl/one guy scenario. While the setups and sexual sequences are similar in formula, each chapter presents its own examples of uniqueness; enough to keep us happy the whole way through.
Prior to detailing a few of the finer stand-out moments, I'll discuss the disc itself, and what you can expect of the overall digital quality.
POV Perversions plays with great visual clarity and audio consistency. In other words, the transfer was superb. The videography was obviously done very well, aside from a few "dark" areas where the lighting could've used some improvement. Good source material is always key, and comes good editing. I'm very satisfied with all those factors. The menu design is user friendly, offering a very clear list of choices. From the main area, viewers can access the movie itself, a chapter breakdown (with subchapters exploring particular sex acts), Mayhem trailers, photos, and web site. But then there's the best option; special features. This section offers a few common goodies, and some we don't always see. Here are where the "pop shots" are housed, and the behind the scenes footage. Also included are interviews and biographies. Now, all of these are what I consider "expected" inclusions, but not all studios include these on their releases. Furthermore, though simplistic in design, the bio section actually conveys info on
all the cast members. Yes... even the guys whose faces are virtually unseen! Nice touch, Mayhem.
Okay, the disc is very good. So what about the sex? As mentioned in the opening paragraph, POV Perverts offers all that a fan would expect from a point-of-view, plus a little more to jazz a heavily-beaten genre up a bit. Foremost, the girls are all superb. That means both physically and sexually superb. The sex, even though a POV, is not one-sided either. These beautiful ladies work over the stunt cocks with furious attitude and nothing less! The fine female stars are not just submissive meat here; they fuck right back at ya! The mix of tease, oral sex, standard sex, and heavy anal sex is seamless, so kudos to Mr. Pete again.
Briefly covering the "hot" of the hot sex, let's start with cover model Brandi Lyons. This brunette babe needs not say much to demonstrate her desire for sex. Following her stylish intro element, where we see her gorgeous tush spread by exotic glassware, Brandi goes from cocksucking to screwing to pounding backdoor ecstasy. Graphically exploitive, but classy in its own manner, this opening chapter rocks hard and never suffers from a single dull moment.
Most outstanding scenes though comes in a tie. Chapter two's Haley does like to talk, and dirty it is. Incredible fucking, both vaginally and anally, is highlighted by her proactive "take charge" mannerisms. This girl leans back and thrusts with insane devotion... anally of course.
The other winner is the closing segment, starring Sabine. This exotic beauty uses equally exotic glassware to make one melt before she even begins to perch upon the meat. A blowjob leads to a doggystyle bang. From there a mish ensues. Then it's all about the ass. Hard working, and hardcore Sabine is with no doubt.
That's just a taste of what Mr. Pete has to offer. Good stuff I say! Yet, the point must be made as to what audience, again, this is really geared to. That would be the stroker. Even with all the wonderful nuance of cinematic talent that Mr. Pete employs in this film, the bare bones fact is...
POV Perversions is not intended for the general, feature or couples, porn viewing audience. POV's are, as most would assume anyway, for the self-absorbed fantasy of the solo flying viewer. It's a niche or specialized genre for anyone really who just wants some private "get off" time.
