The Original
Released in 1978, Debbie Does Dallas has become one of the five bestselling adult films of all time. Numerous sequels and knock-off films have since followed. The film starred a beautiful, young blond newcomer named Bambi Woods, who went on to appear in only 3 more films: Debbie Does Dallas 2, Debbie Does Dallas 3 (in which only a repeated scene from DDD 2 featured Miss Woods), and a volume of the Swedish Erotica series. She disappointingly left the adult film world as quickly as she appeared.
The film was produced by the Buckley Brothers, who convinced the school administrators at the State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook to allow them full use of the campus. The school officials were unaware of the adult nature of the film, and even made cameo appearances in the movie.
Debbie Does Dallas certainly had its share of legal troubles. The movie received a much ignored lifetime injunction preventing any New York movie houses from showing the film.
Additionally, in the 1986 Attorney General's Report on Pornography, Debbie was one of five films cited, though no legal action ensued from the report.
Even the marketing of the film caused a stir. The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders sued over the promotional posters, which featured Bambi in an admittedly similar cheerleader outfit. The court ruled against the film, calling it "a gross and revolting sex film."
