Interview with Jill Kelly - August 18, 2001
On the Set Of Haven's Magic Touch 3 in Los Angeles, CA
Interviewed by Melissa Monet
Pornstarempire.com: So, I am talking with Jill Kelly. So, you're doing a scene right now for?
Jill Kelly: For a movie that we shot in Prague and they're all European girls so we wanted to have a name in there, or a couple of names. Of course Dayton and Keri are more known than the European girls. We're not in Prague (laughing)...
Pornstarempire.com: So how much did it cost you to get Dayton to do this?
Jill Kelly: Actually she just called Vivid and asked Steven and he said "yeah". She said can I do a girl/girl scene and he said "yeah".
Pornstarempire.com: That's great. And you're also doing a scene for...
Jill Kelly: For Haven's Magic Touch 3. This is the third day of shooting and Haven has two scenes today, it's her series, she's a witch and she's in college. So her relatives and all crazy stuff happens.
Pornstarempire.com: And who's in the movie?
Jill Kelly: Haven, Devon, Keri Windsor, Mia Smiles, Chris Cannon, Evan Stone, Dillion Day, Nikki Fairchild...I'm trying to remember all the people I've seen...there's a lot more.
Pornstarempire.com: Okay. So how many does this make for your company now?
Jill Kelly: We do four movies a month. I'm actually horrible with numbers but we've got a lot. We started shipping in December, so...
Pornstarempire.com: So Bud Lee is directing this for you?
Jill Kelly: He's directed all of Haven's Magic Touch so yes, he's doing this one. He just finished a Blue Angel one and Michael Raven just did our big one for the year, called Immortal. It's kind of like a cross between Xanadu and City of Angels, it's really cool, really cool.
Pornstarempire.com: Are you directing any of these?
Jill Kelly: I direct some but I don't direct all of them, I don't have time to direct that much but I can't dance anymore either, I can't, I just don't have that kind of time. I'm going to start to direct more.
Pornstarempire.com: Is it hard trying to run a company?
Jill Kelly: It's a lot of work but I'm having fun doing it. I love it...definitely.
Pornstarempire.com: Are you in movies anymore?
Jill Kelly: I'm in movies, but next year around this time will be my last movie, definitely. I am just working for now with Julian, so...
Pornstarempire.com: And you do girl/girl...
Jill Kelly: No...
Pornstarempire.com: Just Julian and that's it?
Jill Kelly: Just Julian, but you never know what could happen, you know...
Pornstarempire.com: You also have Devon in this movie. So when did you sign her?
Jill Kelly: August 2, 2001.
Pornstarempire.com: So she is your newest contract girl?
Jill Kelly: She's the newest, yeah.
Pornstarempire.com: And that adds to the list of Haven and who else?
Jill Kelly: Haven, Tabitha (Stevens) and Shayla (LaVeaux) has her own series and Kim Chambers has her own series too. They're not really exclusive but they are...I don't know, whatever...we're thinking of signing a couple more girls.
Pornstarempire.com: What happened to Jewel (DeNyle), she used to be with you right?
Jill Kelly: Jewel is doing a series, I believe with Puritan now where she can be more natural. We're a little more couples and kind of softer and she wants to be more hardcore. We're still friends and we still want to use her all the time so...I love her to death, she's "rad".
Pornstarempire.com: I was just wondering because her series was a little more hardcore and that she does a lot more interracial and...
Jill Kelly: We really have no problem with that, she's just more...
Pornstarempire.com: Cutting edge and aggressive?
Jill Kelly: Yeah, which is fine to be like that but we're just softer and you know, Adam and Eve style.
Pornstarempire.com: So what is it that you want to do with the company? Where do you see yourself going in the next five or ten years?
Jill Kelly: Umm...as long as it keeps going as good as it's going and keeps getting better...the girls who retire hopefully I will get them positions in the company. And they have savings from their residuals...I hope to continue it, I hope I start a new trend.
Pornstarempire.com: Now you say that you're only working with Julian...is he only working for you?
Jill Kelly: Yeah, he only works for me...Jill Kelly Productions, and we only work together.
Pornstarempire.com: And how's that going?
Jill Kelly: It's going pretty good.
Pornstarempire.com: Now where are we, besides Monrovia? This is a historical building?
Jill Kelly: Yeah, there is some history behind it, but I don't know what it is.
Pornstarempire.com: So what is the next project after this?
Jill Kelly: The next one...we're going to Lake Powell and we're shooting two movies. One is an all girl movie and the other is a Perfect Pink. A horny kind of houseboat trip. It's an excuse to have a vacation and have sex and make a movie.
Pornstarempire.com: Okay, well thank you very much.
Interview with Jill Kelly - November 6, 2000
Pornstarempire.com: Where are you from?
Jill: I'm originally from Pomona, California.
Q: How did you get into adult--were you a dancer first?
Jill: Yeah, I've been a dancer for ten years.
Q: How did you even get into dancing?
Jill: That's a long story. I actually started dancing when I was 16. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd and being a fuck-up, and then I moved in with my boyfriend and I needed a job. I saw it in the paper--Déjà vu and they never I.D.ed me. Then of course, I broke up with my boyfriend, and he called and told them how old I was, so I never went back. Then I went back...when I was 18.
Q: You must have liked it.
Jill: Well, the money was good. I was working in the medical field and I made more money in one night of [dancing]...than I was [making] in two weeks of work. I was gonna join the Sheriff's Academy, so I decided to dance for a couple of months to pay off all my bills. Because when you join the Sheriff's Academy in LA, you don't get paid during training. So I danced up north and that's when I met Tyffany Million and on the weekends, we would fly up to San Francisco and do live sex shows.... We didn't talk for like a year and then she invited me up?this was in 1992 or 3?to be her date for the [AVN] awards show. That's where she was gonna help me get into the business, so I could feature dance. Then that's when I met my first husband, Cal Jammer, and he was gonna help me...and then we split up and I went on with getting into the business.
Q: He's a porn guy?
Jill: Yes, well he was. He died six years ago.
Q: Were you able to finish high school or was it a situation where you
Jill: I dropped out, but I ended up going to continuation school, so I did graduate.
Q: Were you wild before you danced?
Jill: Well, I was actually a straight-A student all through school until I moved to Pomona with my mom, and lived in the ghetto and hung around with a bunch of stoners. That's when I turned into a party animal.
Q: So was it more the money, or were you like an exhibitionist?
Jill: Oh, totally, always--I was always a horny girl.
Q: What showed you that you were an exhibitionist? Some girls tell me they were tiny little girls and like, lifted up their skirts. You know, that it was apparent from really early on.
Jill: Well, I think when I was really little, I always liked girls.
Jill: Oh?yeah. I remember being like four years old and kissing my friend. ...Really kissing. I don't know how I knew about sex, but I knew what sex was from a very early age.... My mom had Playboys and Playgirls in her closet and I liked looking at the girls more than I did the guys. The guys I thought had ugly pee-pees....
Q: Right. I'm watching you suck somebody's toes right now, [In "The Blonde Brigade"] by the way.
Jill: Must be a Jim Holliday movie.
Q: Yes! So you would say that you were into women before you were into men?
Q: Did you have a girlfriend before you had a boyfriend?
Jill: Yes. ...Well, not a relationship, but I had sex with a girl before I had sex with a guy....
Q: Would you say that you prefer women?
Jill: No. Cause I'm married to a guy. ...I think as a young girl and young adult, I think that I thought I was gay, cause I thought about women when I'd jack off, but now I totally still think women are beautiful, but sexually men do it more for me. It's two different things,...sex with men and women. One's soft and romantic, and the other one's more hardcore.
Q: You would say that sex with women is more romantic?
Q: Interesting. ...It seems like maybe there's a lot to ask you about your sexuality.... What is your favorite part of having sex on-screen?
Jill: Probably fucking in front of so many people. ...It's changed through the years. I don't do that many scenes anymore, so it's kind of like exciting now to do it in front of people, whereas before, when I worked all the time, it wasn't as exciting.
Q: You got burned out?
Jill: Yeah, I think so...and if you do it [(screw onscreen)], you definitely need to enjoy it, and if you don't...enjoy it, you need to stop. Now I totally dig it, cause I only work once in a while, so it's like hot, now.
Q: You're married, but you still perform with men and with women?
Jill: No, I only perform with my husband now.
Q: Who's your husband?
Q: Oh! Well, that's who you're having sex with right now [on-screen]! [Jill laughs]. I had no idea! Well, that's hot?okay, good girl!
Jill: He would totally be okay with me working with girls, if I didn't really like girls.
Jill: ...Cause then it's cheating. ...We're totally monogamous.
Q: ...When did you get married or become exclusive sex partners?
Jill: We got married May 27th, but it was kind of like instant when we first started dating. We thought that we'd be able to...work with other people and about two weeks later, he came home and said, "I can't handle you working with other people." And I was like,
"Oh, how sweet--I don't want anybody touching you...." We're so jealous, it's pathetic, both of us.... We both never talk about the business, as to having sex with other people.
Jill: We're totally like geeks in that area, we act like we've never had sex?we joke around about it too.... We'll be like, "Oh, we've never been with anybody before in our lives." We're both extremely jealous, jealous. Very jealous. ...When we first started dating...he had said, "You're not as jealous as me,"...and I think he's pretty much right....
Q: You didn't anticipate [this marriage] would be like this?
Jill: Getting into this [industry], I wasn't like that....We've done everything sexually and lived out all of our fantasies by doing movies...so now the biggest turn-on for us is monogamy, and probably because we got very jaded because we've done so much. ...It's nice to know that one person is only gonna be with you for the rest of your life and nobody else will have or touch that part, like him feeling inside me, nobody else will ever feel my pussy, and nobody will ever feel his cock again, and that, for us--I know it's weird, and people don't understand it, but to us, that is such a turn-on.
Q: I think it makes sense.... One of my questions was going to be, when you're in this business and you sustain having sex with multiple partners, where does your "intimate self" go? So now I guess you're getting your "intimate self" back...?
...Did you feel like you had lost that part of you when you were deep into the business having a bunch of different partners?
Jill: Yeah, I guess so. It's hard to understand it, but I guess that would be pretty appropriate.
Q: ...You think that maybe the other [porn industry] relationships don't work because they're having multiple partners?
Jill: Probably. ...Everybody's different, but [our relationship] works out great. And actually the fans have e-mailed me?cause everybody says, "Well, they're gonna get sick of you fucking Julian!" Well, for one thing, he's got a huge dick, I'm totally into him--which is a turn-on to most people--he's not bad to look at?
Q: Oh he's hot.... He's hot.
Jill: The fans...have actually said, I'm very happy that you're happy and I'm glad that you're monogamous...I think it's more the industry that says, "Oh, people are gonna get sick of seeing you and him fuck." Well, if that's the case, then we won't do any movies anymore.
Q: Is your family aware of what you do?you're pretty famous, right?
Q: Were you able to tell them before they found out?
Jill: Well, they kind of found out when my first husband died. And they're really cool about it. They'd rather have me be a lawyer or something, but I'm smart and I'm happy, so that's all that matters to them.
Q: Do you have less contact with them because of it?
Jill: No. They're my best friends. Superbowl Sunday I spent with them....
Q: So it's cool?
Jill: Oh, totally. I have the best family in the world.
Q: ...I guess it just becomes about love or something. Cause most porn chicks tell me that their families, even some of the conservative ones, can hang. ...I guess if the bond is strong enough, it just becomes about your relationship with the person.
Jill: Exactly. But if my daughter or son wanted to get into the business, I'd kill 'em.
Q: You have kids?
Jill: No. But if I ever did.... Because it does change something about intimacy. I think it's okay if they have multiple partners and do orgies and stuff, but to do it on camera, it's with you forever. I can deal with that. I think it's?well, where am I gonna work? I get recognized everywhere I go, even without makeup on.... I'm gonna get fired for being in adult in the past, I can't ever have...a government job?if I wanted to go and join the LA County Sheriff's department, they would fire me.... It would still be no morals, you know what I mean?
Q: So [the issue of your prospective kids being in porn is] an issue of limited opportunities?
Jill: Absolutely. ...You can't really do anything else once you've had your life in porn. It's with you forever.
Q: Janine said the same thing.
Jill: Yeah, where's she gonna work? She has a unique look too. It's not like?some girls have looks where they can kind of blend in... But if you get recognized--I mean, everybody watches porn.
Q: ...Do you think that the age requirement for porn should be raised?
Jill: Yes. Absolutely. Unless a girl is being taken care of, like our 20-year-old contract girl [Haven]. She has a secure future, where she's getting residuals. In five years when she wants to retire, if she does, I'm going to have her work for the company. ...For the most part I think it should be 25. ...You think you know it all at 18, and you don't know shit.
Q: What's your favorite part about feature dancing?
Jill: I think, meeting the fans.... Especially when the couples come in and tell you how you helped their sex life, I think that's really cool....
Q: Would you do any more virtual sex videos?
Jill: I'd only do virtual sex with Digital Playground. Cause I love Samantha. ...She's just an awesome person....
Q: As far as virtual sex versus shooting a feature, which would you rather do?
Jill: Well, the virtual sex was very long and very tedious, but I think the product is by far superior, for somebody that actually wants to have virtual sex. I would prefer to do a scene with no dialogue and just go in there and fuck. It's so much easier....
Q: I wanna just let you talk about your plans with your production company, because I'm sure that you have plenty to say.
Jill: Well, basically, we're kind of doing things a little bit different, trying to make it a little more mainstream where the girls actually?our main girls?make residuals. And the girls are actually in control of their little series, where they produce and direct it. [We're] kind of teaching them and helping them have a more secure future and it's more of a team here.... The girls are the most important key to our company, rather than just being talent, they're the team...not saying that the other companies don't treat their girls well.... They're the biggest asset, they're the most important.
Q: It seems like a?I don't wanna say "mother hen" deal, but like "house mistress of the dorm" approach?how do you think you got this protective?
Jill: I've always been that way. ...Even when I was young. Even when I was dancing, ...everybody used to say, "You're like a mother, you take care of everybody."...At 19, everyone always relied on me to defend the girls. Maybe it's just the Aquarian in me.
...There's a purpose for me in life and that's to help people.
Q: So it's not related to like you got fucked over, so now?
Jill: No, not at all. ...
Q: So you had a good experience when you were working freelance in porn?
Q: Anything else about Jill Kelly Productions?
Jill: We have a series that we're going to do with Haven and we haven't named it yet--there'll be one a month. It's cool. It's kind of like the Adams Family/Bewitched. I think it's going to be a big hit for her. Also we have a very, very cool movie?a big one that's very secretive. It'll be out this summer. Michael Zen is directing.
Q: What do you think your company brings that's unique to the table?
Jill: We have it all [selection-wise]. ...And I just think I'd be a multi-millionaire right now if I was making residuals off of all the movies that I've done. [This idea is] just more mainstream, and hopefully it will change the industry to more the benefit of the talent. ...I guess being the owner of a company and coming from being talent for so many years, I'm gonna definitely side with the girls.
Q: Will you work with Jim Holliday again?
Jill: Actually, I would love for him to work for our company, so hopefully, he will work with me [again] some day.
